The website for everyone in the Old Aberdeen community

Old Aberdeen

Home. Local facilities. Community Council. All about Old Aberdeen. Old Aberdeen Heritage Society.
Aberdeen City Council has developed a number of attractive leaflets that describes themed trails around Aberdeen and there is one for this area called ‘Old Aberdeen Trail’. This can be obtained from the tourist office in Broad Street (that’s in the main bit of Aberdeen), and should be available in other places too, but if you can’t get hold of one there is a downloadable file available here : -  old-aberdeen-walking-trail. You will need to print it double-sided then fold double into a booklet to make sense of it.

Old Aberdeen Guided Walks
The leaflet mentioned above gives you one suggestion for discovering more of Old Aberdeen. Another, two mile, walk, would be to simply take the old main road to the North:

Take a walk along the old road north from Aberdeen, from the Spital, past Kings College into the High Street, pass to the right of the town house, then along Don Street all the way to the Brig of Balgownie.

Guided Walks
Guided walks around Old Aberdeen are often on offer, but presently I’m not sure who is doing them. If I hear a name, I’ll pop it in here.

Here’s a list of the main touristy things to see, heading south to north. Many are linked to pages with further detail, or to their own web site - just click through if  the words are underlined.: -

Kings College

The Chanonry

Seaton Park and the River Don

Brig of Balgownie and the Cottoun of Balgownie

Other sites of interest, some of them rather tucked away:

The Gibbery Wallie    <click for more information>

The Snow Kirk

‘The Wallace Tower’, more accurately called Benholme’s Lodging

The Mote Hill
